The Royal Oak H.C.Pub Grub Done Right!!!!

The Royal Oak Hunt Club location...was a pleasant surprise! The atmosphere was warm, friendly and inviting. The pub was clean, and well maintained. Easily accessible to disabled persons also.

The staff was attentive, knowledgable and really friendly. Made for a very comfortable experience. Now...for the food!!!!

Being a pub, my dinner companions and I decided to try the basics. The wings, cooked perfectly. The sauce was very nice, and the presentation was standard but this is in fact a pub so...My dinner companion ( a wing afficianado) loved them though thought them a little small.

The standard burger was also on the menu. Very nice presentation, fresh toppings however...guys....lose the pre formed meat patty! Other than that...a pretty decent burger. Could be a FAB burger, with fresh meat in this reviewers opinion.

Now for the...fan fave of the day! The Mediterranian Chicken Flatbread. This was...OUTSTANDING! The flatbread was nicely grilled without being uber-crispy. The toppings of peppers, onions, zucchini were well prepared still maintaining some bite. Served with a generous portion of fresh salad! Now, the salad I must comment on because it was indeed really fresh....a rarity in pub salads from time to time. The portions of this meal were...gargantuan! It was indeed generous to say the least.

The house wine, a Mission Hills Estates Red was given a thumbs up all around. Very nice, for a house wine. A wonderful full body, and fruity element that...particularly went well with the flatbread.

I have to say, we were very surprised with how far the Oak has come. My companions were unaware of some of the menu items being offered though. I didn't realize they serve Indian fare also! Promote more of your menu please! The food is great and people need to know!

Well, out of 4 of us stashed around the pub Saturday evening...we are all going to become regulars here! The food, service and atmosphere impressed us all. So all in all, an eye opening look at pub grub. Will return and recommend highly! My final score based on the opinions of my companions and I ...an 8.5/10! Congrats Royal Oak for raising the bar in food, service and style!

Welcome to Ottawa Food Reviews

Hello, and welcome to my blog. I will be posting reviews of local restaurants. I will be reviewing everything from Pub grub, and obnoxious Gastro Pub fare to Fine Dining.



As you may have noticed...I do not love the idea of overly presented, pretentious food. While I will give credit where credit is due, nice presentation doesn't fix bad food. In all fairness though, Ottawa has some excellent eateries. I will be supplying reviews weekly. Based on not only my opinions but on those of my dining companions.



Service, quality, atmosphere will all be taken into consideration. Over the next 2 weeks, I will be reviewing some popular dining establishments around town for my first enteries. I look forward to your feedback...good bad or otherwise!
